  What Do You Think?

“You’ve got your mother’s hair and your father’s eyes.” Almost everyone has heard about heredity at some point.
  • How are personal characteristics passed on from one generation to the next?
  • Can a personal characteristic be changed?
Write your answer to these questions in your Active Biology log. Be prepared to discuss your ideas with your small group and other members of your class.

For You To Do

In this activity you will use tobacco seeds from parents that carried the characteristics for albinism (no chlorophyll) but did not show it. Your observations will help you to understand that traits are inherited but are also influenced by the environment.
