How can students get started?

How can students complete such a challenge without the requisite physics knowledge? Before the chapter activities begin, a discussion takes place about the criteria for success. The class discusses what is expected in an excellent proposal. How will this proposal be graded? For instance, the rubric for grading will describe whether "a comparison of factors affecting sports on Earth and the moon" implies two factors or four factors and whether an equation or graph or description should be a part of the comparison. Similarly, do the factors and newspaper article carry equal weight, or does one have a greater impact on the final grade? Students will have a sense of what is required for an excellent proposal before they begin. This will be revisited before work on the project begins.
