| CHAPTER 1: HEARING: Scenario |
| |
A 23-year-old rock musician has difficulty understanding speech. The musician goes to an audiologist, a medical person who helps people with hearing loss. A hearing test shows that the musician has a loss of hearing at high frequencies. The audiologist says that loud noise can cause a hearing loss, but the loss may be only temporary. Hoping the problem will go away, the musician stops playing music for a month. Unfortunately, the hearing loss remains. The audiologist suggests a hearing aid. Another musician, who plays in a symphony orchestra, has no hearing loss. What is the difference between the two situations? |
