InterActions in Physical Science: Second Edition

science experimentsAll InterActions in Physical Science units are divided into sections called “Chapters of Learning.” In Unit 1 there are three chapters.

Chapter 1: Science Experiments

In the first chapter, you will investigate pendulums and magnets. You will learn how to make and interpret measurements, and how to decide if an experiment is well-designed. You will also learn how to judge the conclusions you draw from your experiments.

You will decide if the conclusions are logical and well-reasoned. key Each chapter has a Key Question. Here is the Key Question for Chapter 1.

key How can you tell if the conclusion from an experiment is valid?

Chapter 2: Introducing Interactions

In this chapter you will learn how scientists describe our world in terms of interactions between objects. You will investigate three types of interactions: magnetic, electric charge, and electric circuit. You will also construct and analyze an electromagnet and study how a buzzer works. Here is the key question for Chapter 2.

key How can you describe interactions?

Chapter 3: Interactions and Properties

In this chapter you learn what a property of an object is, and what are some properties that would help you identify objects. You will also be introduced to the meaning of mass, volume, and density, all of which are important properties of objects. Here are the key questions for Chapter 3.

key
  1. How do scientists measure the amount of stuff in an object?
  2. What are some properties of objects that help you decide what kind of material they are made of?
