COMPASS:

An Independent Review Funded By The National Science Foundation.

COMPASS (Curricular Options in Mathematics Programs for All Secondary Students) is a secondary school implementation project funded in part by the National Science Foundation. It is directed by Eric Robinson and Margaret Robinson, and is housed at Ithaca College. The goal is to assist schools, teachers, administrators, parent groups, and other community members and constituencies interested in improving secondary school mathematics opportunities and experiences for their students. The need for reform, particularly in K-12 mathematics education, is supported by hundreds of teachers, teacher educators, mathematicians, school administrators and other policy makers.

The mission of COMPASS is to focus specifically on the implementation of five multi-year, comprehensive high school curriculum development projects. The curricula provide a wide range of options in high school mathematics and have been designed to address the challenges and standards set forth by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

Here is what COMPASS says about MATH Connections:

COMPASS demonstrates five important mathematical concepts that students attain with MATH Connections:Slope, Intuitive Introduction To Calculus, Systems Of Linear Equations, Functions; and Data Analysis - These are just some of the differences that make MATH Connections a success. After you read their evaluation, we're sure you'll agree. If you would like to see the COMPASS review in its entirety, please visit their website at: http://www.ithaca.edu/compass/frames.htm
