It’s About Time
It's About Time (IAT) is an innovative company
that specializes in developing math and science
programs that are research-based, and have
delivered solid, positive results for all students.
Many of our programs are funded by the National
Science Foundation, and all follow the guidelines of
the National Science Education Standards and the
National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
We publish these programs because our primary
concern is increased learning in math and science
for all students.
It's About Time believes that students learn math
and science the way that practicing scientists and
mathematicians do. They learn when something
grabs their attention...when the content is relevant
to their lives. They learn when we allow them, in
fact encourage them, to talk to one another and
question each others' results. They learn when we
permit them to get their hands on the subject
matter. In short, when we allow students to use
all of their senses, they make sense of math and
science.
It’s About Time was Established in 1996
Laurie Kreindler and Tom Laster co-founded
It's About Time in December of 1996 with the
signing of the publishing agreement with the
American Association of Physics Teachers for
Active Physics, a National Science Foundation
supported program.
In 1998 MATH Connections®, also a National
Science Foundation (NSF) supported program,
was published by It’s About Time. IAT developed
a reputation among inquiry-based developers
for publishing NSF programs, which led to
the American Geological Institute asking
’s About Time to publish two of their textbooks:
EarthComm®, for high school and Investigating
Earth Systems, a middle school Earth science
program.
In 2002, It’s About Time, with Dr. Arthur Eisenkraft,
author of Active Physics, received a grant for
Active Chemistry, a yearlong chemistry course.
Recognizing that all of the curricula IAT was
publishing had lab equipment as an integral part
of the program a materials kit division was
established in the year 2000. It now comprises
one-third of IAT’s income.
It’s About Time and Herff Jones
On December 3, 2003, It’s About Time became
part of the Herff Jones Education Division joining Nystrom. Nystrom is the United States' oldest publisher of wall maps and globes for classroom use.
